THE UNKNOWN HIPSTER
the most appropriate way to describe the unknown hipster's blog is simply, that it is a delight. he is an artist, attends fashion/art events and writes about them. only, there are no accompanying photographs- instead, there are illustrations, done in colored pencil or watercolor. i'll let them speak for themselves, but i do just have to say that i love them. check out his blog!
HI HI HI HI
7 hundred and 27 brilliant pages now in the past, i went and peeked at NY fashion week..
nothing else can possibly be said of alexander wang's football gear, but i haven't seen a spot about isaac mizrahi, who is an absolute genius:
(yeahh georgie!!)
the golf cart.. isaac's sense of humor lends his work that nice vibrancy.
i also loved ralph lauren, though not expecting to; i've always been indifferent to lauren's clothes, but i just realized that they're definitely not boring. i actually really, really love some of the looks from spring 2010. where is my country house and basket of berries?
always loved super dainty feminine heels with jeans
sososo pretty
also loved this from rachel comey:
and these utterly perfect shoes from her, of the same season as the oxfords i have but these are a divine RED and heeled. amazing!

sorry, outside world
i will get back to this blog once i've finished this book:
because right now, i live in it.
i have, however, managed to stray from it long enough at some points to:
a) bust up my camera,
(this one):
and
b) make a couple skirts:
back to the book.

modernization and dutch art
these are screenshots from an aperture newsletter i received the other day:
i find this incredibly interesting as i studied quite a bit of dutch art, in particular dutch/netherlandish landscapes, in college. i responded much more strongly to vermeer's light than paintings of boats on calm twilight seas back then, but this aperture exhibit has reawakened my interest in these landscapes. it makes me question the idea of time in the beauty of landscape art: are these new works as beautiful as albert cuyp's harbor paintings of the 17th century? does the modernization you see in the new works make the work impossible to be beautiful? i think the new works are as 'beautiful' as one's opinion of seeing the new york city skyline. if you can marvel at modernization/if you can appreciate beauty in man-made landscapes then yes. i happen to be one of those kinds of people; who can find serenity in chaos, as well as the curiosity of man vs. nature and its translation into our landscapes.
Aelbert Cuyp: Gezicht op Dordrecht (ca. 1660)
i'd like to check out this show when i'm back in the city.
