I don't know if you want suggestions really, but I can't help myself! I just spent the summer living in Venice and loved it - It's positively surreal. If you go to Rome, visit the Maxxi museum. If you go when the weather is warmer, go to Cinque Terre.Oh and have the savory artichoke crepes! and the Fior de latte gelato!
Cinque Terre!! In Rome go to the Trastevere in the afternoon/evening and get some gelato and people watch (though maybe that's more of a summer activity...) Also: foccacia by the kilograaaaam.
